Attorney Renee J. Nordstrand is honored to be chosen by the Santa Barbara Women Lawyers (SBWL) to receive the 2014 year’s Deborah Talmage Attorney of the Year award for her dedication to promoting and mentoring women in the legal community as well as her commitment to professional excellence. As a personal injury and criminal defense lawyer, Ms. Nordstrand is a trusted advisor to her peers and an active contributing member to SBWL and other legal organizations.
Ms. Nordstrand was selected to receive this prestigious award in recognition of her unwavering commitment to helping others since she began her legal career in 1990. Not only has she served on the Board of Directors for SBWL for several years, but she spearheaded the creation of the Professional Advancement Committee, which lead to the Lawyer Compensation Survey, and then finally the SBWL Foundation. She made considerable efforts to create the Children’s Waiting Room at the Santa Barbara Courthouse, by obtaining funding for the project and advocating for its completion over a 12 year period.
She is devoted to her community and plays an active role as a member of the Board of Directors of Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation, a County of Santa Barbara Civil Service Commissioner, and a member of the California Women Lawyers.
Ms. Nordstrand will receive her award on December 8, 2014 at the SBWL annual dinner, with guest speaker Beth H. Parker, Chief Legal Counsel of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California.
